Peter Zelle Presentation

Sunday, January 6, 2019 7:30 PM Scottsdale Ranch Clubhouse 10585 N. 100th St. Scottsdale, AZ

On Sunday evening, Arizona Glass Alliance will host a presentation by noted glass sculptor Peter Zelle.  Peter, who hails from Minneapolis, has been creating art in glass and steel for over 30 years.  He got his start with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and included stints studying with both Dale Chihuly and Howard Ben Tre.  Since 1992 he has operated his own studio, and since 2013 Peter has been concentrating on large scale glass sculptures (often over seven feet tall).

Peter describes his work this way: “My art is an exercise of my physical intuition and my passion for color and form.  I think of my sculptures as compositions, a word that resonates for me musically as well as spatially.  I bring together shapes, patterns, textures, and colors in order to orchestrate a dynamic and harmonious whole.  With these monolithic slabs of colored glass, I aim to provide viewers with a space for contemplation and a respite from the cacophony of the modern world.”

Another art writer says this about Peter’s work: “ Ultimately, Zelle is a colorist and his cast glass sculptures are compelling, associative pieces that prompt the viewer to bring his or her experiences to the work, or simply be immersed in its dramatic color and form.”

One of Peter’s sculptures is shown below and to see more of Peter’s work please take a look at his website, www.peterzelle.com. Very recently Peter has started creating some smaller, wall size pieces that are either 5” x 5” or 5” x 10” and he will be bringing a few of those with him.
