As our first event of the 2015-16 season Arizona Glass Alliance is proud to host a presentation by the very well respected glass artist and educator, John Leighton. This event will be held at our traditional location, the Stonegate clubhouse, beginning at 7:30 PM.
For many years John was the head of the glass program at San Francisco State University, and more recently he has been the head of the large glass program at California State University at Fullerton. In addition to his work as an educator, John is a well known studio glass artist in his own right, whose work is represented in major museums both in the United States and internationally, including the Smithsonian, Corning, the Ebeltoft Glassmuseum in Denmark and two museums in Japan. John has twice been invited to work at the International Glass Symposium in the Czech Republic, and was awarded Honorary Lifetime Membership in the International Glass Art Society. A real renaissance man, John has also designed and built his own home, studio and a 20 foot boat! One of John’s recent, very interesting mixed media sculptures is shown below.
In addition to what promises to be a most interesting presentation by John Leighton, this will be a great opportunity for you to reconnect with your Arizona Glass Alliance friends. The Stonegate clubhouse is located at 11551 E. Mountain View Road in Scottsdale. To reserve your spot for a fun and interesting evening please respond to Fred Schomer.
