On Monday, April 9, Arizona Glass Alliance will very happily host a “double header” presentation by two outstanding Canadian glass artists, Jerre Davidson and George Whitney. Both Jerre and George bring very interesting backgrounds to their work, which has been exhibited at SOFA as recently as last fall. Jerre was born in Scotland, studied dance at The Scottish Ballet School and later danced professionally. Jerre’s love of dance and music is reflected in the flowing cast glass sculptures she creates. Each of her pieces explores the shifting rhythms of a particular space by using shapes, light, shadow and reflections. An image of one of Jerre’s sculptures (the yellow piece) is shown below, and to see more of her work take a look at her website, www.jerredavidsonglass.com.
George Whitney enjoyed an initial career as a tool maker and business owner before he became a full time glass artist, and his background is reflected in his work. As George says of his work: “I am drawn to abstract, geometric sculpture, the volume of it, the form, the textures. Working with the shapes that I find, I adapt them, combining elements of multiple forms and unrelated textures, to arrive at a final destination.” An image of one of George’s sculptures (the blue piece) is shown below, and to see more of his work take a look at the Sandra Ainsley Gallery website, www.sandraainsleygallery.com.
