On Monday evening, Arizona Glass Alliance will happily welcome back Jen Blazina for a return engagement with our group. Jen, who made a presentation to us quite a number of years ago, brings her experience both as a printmaker and a glass artist to her work. Jen’s beautiful work represents a sense of holding onto a place in time. Inspired by her grandfather’s photography and her grandmother’s family stories which used images as a reference point, Jen’s work blends surreal imagery and found objects in her cast glass pieces.
To quote Jen: “My work often questions themes of memory; time; what is discarded by a person whether it is an object or an idea. As an artist, I am intrigued with the idea that what is precious to one person will be discarded by another. Whether found in a second hand shop or passed down from my family, I am often attracted to and captivated by the lost beauty of subtle images and materials.”
Jen’s work can be found in museums in the US, Europe and Israel and she has been awarded numerous residencies and grants, including funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and a residency at Corning. Currently, in addition to her work as a studio artist Jen is also a professor of art at Drexel University.
