As our second event of the 2025-26 season Arizona Glass Alliance will very proudly host a presentation by the well known glass sculptor Dan Friday. Dan is a native of the Lummi Nation and a lifelong resident of Washington States’s Puget Sound region. His work often includes important symbols and animals from his childhood and culture, such as totems, fish and bears, and can be found in major galleries, museums and collections around the country.

Drawing from cultural themes and using modern techniques, Dan’s work is contemporary in format while maintaining basic Native American qualities. Dan has honed his skills over the past two decades working with such major Seattle artists as Dale Chihuly, Paul Marioni and Preston Singletary, and for several years now he has maintained his own independent studio.

Dan says this about his work: “Creativity was fostered in me by my family from an early age. Living without TV and knowing our rich cultural heritage of the Lummi Nation, meant that making things with our hands was a regular activity. I typically work with simple themes and forms, and often employ subtle silhouettes when making my totems. It is a pleasure seeing inanimate objects taking on a life of their own.”

An image of one of Dan’s sculptures is shown below. Dan was the cover article of the spring 2025 issue of Urban Glass Art Quarterly, and it’s a great article about Dan, his background and his life as an artist. See more using the links below:
