On Monday evening, January 29, Arizona Glass Alliance will very proudly host a presentation by a fast rising young glass artist, Eriko Kobayashi. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Eriko relocated to the US to study and received her MFA from Southern Illinois University. Her work has been recognized for its originality by being included in the most recent New Glass Review 43, as well as last year’s New Glass Review 42, both published by the prestigious Corning Museum. Eriko’s work has been shown at Urban Glass in New York and the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, as well as Hebei, China and both Tokyo and Toyama, Japan. She has been artist in residence at the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Corning and Wheaton Arts in Millville, NJ.

Eriko’s work has a distinctive playfulness to it, creating positive energy by engaging the viewer with everyday forms while at the same time stimulating the viewer to rethink the object they are viewing. Two good examples of Eriko’s recent work are shown below, her “S’Mores” and “Gummy Bear Box”, both of which will surely bring a smile to your face.
