Upcoming Barrio Vidrio at Philabaum Glass

October 1, 2016 Barrio Vidrio event at Philabaum Glass

Glass events at three nearby studios all day, including at Philabaum Glass from 2 – 6 pm., with advanced glass blowing demos by Jason Marstall.  The last demo will be narrated by Tom Philabaum during the Gallery Reception, around 5 pm. as the finale to the Barrio Vidrio day of glass.

Sonoran Glass School 10 am – 4pm Browse the showroom full of hundreds of handblown glass pumpkins, and watch the pumpkin glassblowing process live in the Hot Shop. It’s Sonoran Glass School’s Pumpkin Fiesta! You can even craft your own glass pumpkin, bead, fused tile or other fall project under the guidance of an instructor for $10- $85.

Barrio Collection 12:00 noon – 4pm Glass artists Katja Fritschze and Danny Perkins host an afternoon displaying their work in the gallery and demonstrating mold-blowing techniques outdoors. Sonoran Glass School’s mobile glass studio will be on site serving as the backdrop to Katja’s demonstration of making the chest and head of a deer out of glass at 1:30p.

Philabaum Glass Gallery & Studio 2 pm – 6 pm Glassblowing demos will take place throughout the afternoon. From 4-6p we will host a reception for “pro·fu·sion”, the new glass exhibition of fused glass by Karen Bexfield and Richard Parrish. Have some wine as you enjoy the show. The finale is a demonstration in the hot shop by Jason Marstall around 5p, with Tom Philabaum narrating. Expect to see a large scale work of art, blown and hot-sculpted, with elaborate pre-made components added on as you watch.

More gallery openings continue downtown until 9pm, as The Central Gallery Association’s “The Big Picture” initiates the season with downtown art.
