Scottsdale Ranch Clubhouse 10585 N. 100th. St. Scottsdale, AZ

On Thursday evening Arizona Glass Alliance will very proudly host presentations by two of our very own, very talented glass artist members, Steve Ciezki and Elaine Rettger. Both Steve and Elaine do quite wonderful, but very different work.

Steve Ciezki is the author of “Life on the Rails”, a book of glassblowing techniques, and is known for his Stack and Tower sculptures as well as his paintings on glass. With a background in traditional drawing, painting, glassblowing, and photography, he uses new technology to make meditative, rhythmic art. Creating art is therapeutic to Steve and he is motivated by his new discoveries from the past. Steve was a resident artist at the Studio of the Corning Museum in 2014, the recipient of the Art Group Creative Fellowship at Canberra Glassworks in 2018, and has lectured at glass studios in Turkey, Belgium, Australia and Japan, as well as the US.

Elaine Rettger was born in Ohio and was a double major in graphic design and industrial design at Purdue University. After graduation she moved to Arizona to pursue a career as a graphic designer creating visually appealing and balanced compositions for marketing materials. In the early 2000’s Elaine became fascinated by the properties of glass and took several glass technique classes. The fleeting beauty of nature inspires Elaine’s work. She is fascinated by light and shadow, and her vision is to capture a moment in time, representing color, movement, shape and transition. Her signature style merges collage, painting and watercolor powder glass wafer constructions to create washes of color that mimic watercolor paintings.

Images of Steve’s Stack and Tower sculpltures as well as one of Elaine’s “watercolors” are shown below. This is a great opportunity to get to know two of our fabulous artist members and their work, so you won’t want to miss it.
