As our opening event of the 2025-26 season on Thursday evening, September 18, Arizona Glass Alliance, in cooperation with Warren Norgaard’s Milkweed Studio, will very proudly host a presentation by the internationally recognized glass sculptor Emma Varga of Australia. Originally born and trained in her native Yugoslavia, Emma emigrated to Australia in 1995 where she has lived and worked ever since. Emma employs her own special multiple layer fusing technique to create uniquely beautiful sculptures that highlight her focus on the beauty and fragility of our natural environment.

Emma says this about her work “The walk among my small studio garden was once a joyful daily ritual, looking forward to being surrounded by the beauty of the native coastal flora. However, the growing concerns for global warming and its effects on the natural world taint these experiences with a rising anxiety for the future of our environment. I do not aim to distill the natural devastation that is currently occurring but rather reinforce the notion of the fragility and vulnerability of our environment.”

Emma’s work has been shown in over 100 exhibitions, over 30 of which were solo exhibitions, all over the world, including many in the US as well as Europe. In addition, Emma has taught at major schools and institutions in the US and internationally, including Corning. Emma’s work can be found at museums around the world as well, including the National Gallery of Australia, the Palm Springs Art Museum, the Ringling Museum of Sarasota and the Toyoma Museum of Japan.
