Hank Murta Adams Presentation

Monday, January 27, 2020 7:30 PM Scottsdale Ranch Clubhouse 10585 N. 100th St. Scottsdale, AZ

On Monday evening, Arizona Glass Alliance will host a presentation by the very well-known and respected glass sculptor and educator, Hank Murta Adams. Hank earned his BFA in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design while simultaneously being an active participant in Dale Chihuly’s “glass familia” at Pilchuck. Hank has engaged with glass in a variety of ways over the years, both as a leading cast glass sculptor and also as an educator. Hank has recently served for many years as the creative director for a major non-profit art center on the east coast, where he had a guiding hand in residency programs, curated exhibitions and other activities for hundreds of glass artists, many of whom today are well known names.

Hank is known for his roughhewn figurative sculptures, which have earned him a reputation as an independent minded innovator. His work, although primarily glass, does not transmit light but rather captures light, and with it a sense of the life within the sculpture. Hank’s work can be found in museums across the United States as well as several European countries and Japan. In addition to his sculptural work Hank is also a designer and builder, as well as a curator and facilitator of various creative projects. An image of one of Hank’s iconic pieces, including a detail of a portion of the piece, is shown below.
