2015-2016 Welcome Letter from the President

Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome to the 2015-16 season of Arizona Glass Alliance. We’ve got a lot of exciting events planned for you this year, and I just wanted to give you a “heads up” about what’s scheduled between now and the end of the year so that you can save the dates on your calendars. Here’s a brief summary:

• October 19 presentation by John Leighton, the well respected studio artist and former head of the glass programs at San Francisco State University and California State University at Fullerton. Full details are in a recent separate email

• November 1 from 10 to 5 about a dozen of our artist members will be exhibiting as part of the Shemer Art Center art fair. In addition, the Circle 6 mobile hot shop will be doing demos all day. Shemer is located at 5005 E. Camelback Road

• November 2 presentation by Jan Smith, Executive Director of the Bergstrom Mahler Museum of Glass. 7:30 PM at the Scottsdale Ranch clubhouse.

• November 15 tour of five member collections, including lunch at one of the homes. This event will run approximately from 10 AM to 4 PM and be limited to paid members.

• November 16 presentation by the husband and wife artist team of Robin and Julia Rogers. This event is sponsored by the Melting Point gallery in Sedona and will 7:30 PM at the Stonegate Clubhouse

• December 7 presentation by Latchezar Boyadjiev, 7:30 PM at the Stonegate Clubhouse

• December 21 presentation by Brianna Barron, 7:30 PM at the Stonegate Clubhouse

In addition, take a look at our brand new, really great website, www.azglassalliance.org. It’s been totally redone by our website co-chairs, Pat Isaacson and Susan Rollins, working with an outside professional firm. You’ll find we are now featuring three of our artist members each month, and we’ve got a brand new calendar of events. In addition, each month we’ll be including announcements from artist and gallery members of what’s new and exciting with them, as well as photos from past events. Pat and Susan have done a great job, and we can all be really proud of our website.

Finally, planning for our April 28-30 trip to Boston and Providence is coming along nicely. This trip is shaping up to be one of our best. Full details, schedule and pricing are not available yet, but here’s a sampling of what we’re thinking. We’ll arrive in time for a welcome dinner on Wednesday evening, April 27, and we’ll be staying at the highly rated Marlowe boutique hotel (www.marlowehotel.com) in Cambridge. The trip will end on Saturday night, the 30th, so that you can fly home on Sunday, or extend your trip by a day to attend the South Boston Craft Show which will be running that weekend.

Some of the artists we’re tentatively thinking of visiting include: • Nicole Chesney • Daniel Clayman • Dan Dailey and his wife, Linda McNeil • Mark Del Guidice • Carrie Gustafson • Peter Houk • Thomas Scoon • Jay Stanger • Steve Weinberg

In addition, we’ll visit one or two outstanding private collections as well as pay a visit to the very high quality craft gallery Mobilia. We may also try to schedule a visit to the famous glass botanical exhibit at the Harvard University Museum. This is sure to be a fun filled trip, so put the dates on your calendar now!
